As a young hairdresser from Sologne arriving in Paris in the 1950s, with his creative genius and pioneering spirit Jacques Dessange revolutionized the world of hairstyling and beauty by making the entire profession a prestigious one. He began his career at a time which left little room for imagination and freedom, but succeeded in establishing a style that was both elegant and natural with creations that would become hairdressing “essentials” like the bold and legendary “messy look” or the now iconic Californian Blonde.
As well as a visionary stylist, Jacques Dessange was also a successful businessman who, from his first salon, which opened in Paris in 1954, would go on to develop an internationally acclaimed global beauty brand as well as a franchise model, which is now established around the world with more than 1700 salons in 43 countries. In addition, his training policy and that of transferring know-how, values and exacting quality standards has made a vital contribution to the professionalization of the profession.
As an ambassador of French glamor, Jacques Dessange was also the hairdresser to the biggest stars of the silver screen. The ardent cinema enthusiast also made his brand the official partner of the greatest movie events, including the Cannes Film Festival, at which it has had a presence since 1958.
